Metals used:
- Nickel
- Palladium
- Platinum
- Stainless steel
- Gold (in some cases)
Why these metals are used:
Orthodontic braces are traditionally made from stainless steel due to its strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness. However, in some specialized braces, nickel, palladium, or platinum are incorporated to enhance certain properties. Nickel adds flexibility and durability, making it a good option for wires. Palladium and platinum are more corrosion-resistant and biocompatible, which is particularly useful in patients with metal sensitivities. In some high-end braces, gold alloys are used, not only for aesthetic appeal but also for their biocompatibility and long-lasting wear resistance.
